Vanity Fair To Feature The Force Awakens Photos
Just in time for May the 4th, Vanity Fair shows off their June cover and feature, Annie Leibovitz photographing Star Wars: The Force Awakens, including a first look at villain Kylo Ren unmasked. Also included in the preview is a behind the scenes video, and a look at Lupita Nyong’o in motion-capture gear for her CGI space pirate character, Maz Kanata, along with a bevy of aliens and droids from the pirate’s castle.
For those old enough to remember, Leibovitz and Vanity Fair also did a similar issue 16 years ago for Episode I in February of ’99.
The June 2015 issue also features an article that mentions JJ Abrams’ desire to insert a scene with a dead Jar Jar Binks into the film, which is an understandable feeling for many Star Wars fans. Below is a making-of video.

Look! It’s more crazy aliens and droids in practical. Sexy 3PO is a bit much, but some of those look like they’ll make nice action figures.
The Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and Lupita Nyong’o reveals all match up with rumors for those characters. I’m super excited for Captain Phasma!
Vanity Fair also did profiles for AOTC and ROTS. The AOTC photoshoot featured Samuel L. Jackson’s crazy facial hair, which obviously did not turn up in the film, so I wonder if this is how Kylo Ren will actually look without the helmet.
Also, it’s worth noting that the Kylo Ren caption mentions the First Order’s secret base. Why would they need to keep it a secret? Hmm…
The rogue’s gallery shot includes what looks to be a black-painted OT stormtrooper helmet with the word “FEAR” written on it in Aurebesh. It also includes what appears to be a human version of Trinto Duaba. :p
What if Kylo Ren were Darth Caedus = Jacen Solo? Rumors of a certain scene could suggest his parentage. That might make Gwendolyn Christie Lumia instead of Mara Jade (speculation). Yeah. I know “they threw the EU out.” But I’m holding on to it until December 18 at least.
The creatures look good. I can’t wait to see Han Solo interact with his daughter in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon!
