Another head-slappingly stupid moment brought to you by America.
So there we were… watching the news at the gym. Me and all of the Bible-toting, but sensible older African-Americans who go to this Bally’s. When the news story about the disclaimer about evolution in the textbooks was aired, there was a collective groan from the crowd.
One woman piped up and said, “What in the world is wrong with this country? You can’t just have evolution in the books and teach about God at church?”
A man responded, “Even though I go to church every Sunday, I still think that church should stay at church and with the family and not be brought into the schools no matter what people think. You know there’s too many other people in this country who don’t believe in a Christian god!”
A buzz of accord ran through the mass…
I piped up and said, “I learnt about God creating man before I learnt about evolution. I think that God created man as the next step of evolution for the prehistoric apes that He created as well!”
Everyone seemed to be in a good place with my comment.
So, there we pedalled on our stationary bikes and crosstrainers; ran on our treadmills and stepped on our stairmasters – collectively just stunned by how our country is doing all it can to ensure that we produce the dumbest, most closed-mided, idiot children on the planet.
We are SO doomed.
