Family Video. Anyone else been to one?
We just got our own Family Video in town about 2 months ago. I finally got around to renting there this weekend for the first time.
My first impression is that their selection is pretty poor. The recent releases aren’t that bad though. Chances are that 99% of the movies that one might be interested in the new release section will be there. They don’t carry as many duplicates as a Blockbuster would for the more popular movies so a good many were rented out. It seems though once a movie is off the new release wall it’s gone forever.
Well I made my selections and looked to apply for my membership. It turns out to be completely painless. They just asked for my address and phone number and they verified the phone number by calling my apartment and that was it. No cards required, you have to give them your phone number to complete the rental transaction.
It cost me $1 for the first DVD and I got a second one for free as part of being a new member. Sweet! I think I found my new rental place.
Now, something that I found very bizarre is that a business called Family Video has an Adult Video section complete with a beaded curtain and all. Why? I really thought that adult video rentals were a thing of the past thanks to the internet.
