Have you ever thought about Jim Webb being Obama’s Vice President?

I watched Jim Webb being interviewed tonight (maybe a possible Obama running-mate) and I thought to myself how fortunate we are that the Democrats have so much talent to choose from.

Remember Michael Moore’s movie F-9-11? He went around interviewing Members of Congress trying to find some with children who were serving in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Jim Webb is a retired high-ranking Navy / Pentagon official and a Senate Democrat from Virginia – and his son is in active combat duty for the Marine Corps on the ground in Iraq, a veteran of some of the heaviest fighting over there. On top of it, Jim Webb also voted against funding the surge and escalating the war and he understands the military, having served, AND has a son at stake and in the middle of this “should we give them more equipment, money, etc?” debate. He’s been over there himself and talked to the troops and heard of things first hand from his son.

Now John McCain has as well – and his son is serving, as he did (in Vietnam of course), as did his father (a Navy Admiral) and his grandfather before him.

For some of these reasons, it would look impressive to have an Obama-Webb ticket come November. Webb brings another aspect of credibility to the team.

But like I said, we have a lot of talent in our party and certainly Edwards and Clinton are both very good choices, too. And there are other women Democrats from Arizona, Kansas, Michigan etc. as possibilities to choose from if that’s a deciding factor. However, I think the party was too obsessed with having a woman or person of color. But now that we do, we can also concentrate on having someone very capable of being Commander in Chief.

Jim Webb might be a good choice for that.

I’m starting to like the idea of what Webb would bring to the Obama ticket.

    What do you think?
