John Mark Karr was aquitted on child pornography charges. The evidence from his personal computers was lost during the 5 years he’d fled to Thailand.

Prosecuters said he wouldn’t have served jail time because he’d already done that while awaiting trial, but they wanted to get him registered as a sex offender. Without evidence, he will NOT be registered.

The problem is that you cannot change someone’s tastes and desires. Karr likes pre-pubescent little girls. That’s what Karr likes. It might result in great harm to little girls, but Karr (or authorities in charge of him) are best off controlling that – but they cannot change his likes and preferences.

When do you label the guy a monster? If he never commits a violating act, but wanders around desiring to do so, should he be harassed and incarcerated anyway? If he’s free (or incarcerated), can “treatment” actually help him?

I think all people are hyper-sexual – we’re instinctively designed to be so – besides eating and sleeping, that’s our only life function. All the rest about serving God to collecting Star Wars toys is socially made up or self-imposed.

So, a woman around Karr’s own age, older, or slightly younger (30’s anyway), won’t satisfy him and he’s not apparently going gay that I can tell. So he’s not going to just live free and have no desires. He will “need” childporn, or take it several steps farther soon enough.

If he can get a girl in her 20’s – maybe that would satisfy him. Maybe.

However, I think he’s fighting AGE along with what everyone’s telling him are inappropriate desires. He wants to stay young – hence all the laser hair removal, etc. And he wants to redesign his own childhood, hence the young girls. He’d recreate a history of his youth where he wasn’t ever rejected and didn’t struggle with adolescence the way most of us do. I know because we all would do so if given the chance perhaps – I’d love a time machine so I could follow my younger self around and let him know things that I know now and re-write my own history. Man, of course I think I could have gotten myself everything I ever wanted! But all this nonsense that’s been going around lately – from killing Amish virgins in Pennsylvania to raping school girls at gunpoint in Colorado, doesn’t successfully complete “Karr’s mission.” There’s just no likely way to do that. Life is a learning experience and as a result we all don’t have everything we wanted out of our youth. Most of us can accept that and move on. If Karr is very lucky, his “near-death” experience with all this has finally caused that lesson to sink in. If not, he may likely offend again – and much worse than before.

How long until we’re discussing him again?
