  • What else can you do with money that you DON’T spend on toys?

We’ve been discussing waning interest in SW figure purchasing and polling for the last, bottom-of-the-barrel unproduced SW figures we yet want to add to our collections.

But what do you do when you feel like you’ve had enough?

Some people will try to recapture the whole experience with another toy line. It might be Star Wars, such as the upcoming Diamond Select 18″ talking figures. But will it ever really be the same as it was in the Midnite Madness days? Of course not. But they will try to tempt us with Mighty Mugs and nesting dolls, and all kinds of stuff that has never been offered. Who really cares?

Some people will switch to another toy line – GI Joe is resurging, to mention the most notable. But there are new Indy toys on the way, Transformers continues to roll on, and the Hot Wheels guys have never quit. Are they on to something?

Have any of you thought about changing gears? What about following your favorite rock band to concerts in other cities, or saving for a flight and hotel for the 2009 Superbowl?

If you aren’t spending what many of you do spend on toys, you’d be surprised at how quickly you can amass the cash for these kinds of things. Do you not do some of them now because you say “you need money for when Hasbro releases ‘such and such?’ ” Or did you start to collect premium stuff like Gentle Giant or Sideshow?

Have you ever taken a trip to Mardis Gras? Booked travel on a cruise ship? Taking airplane or helicopter flying lessons? Hired a fitness trainer? Decided to go back to school (even community college) and learn another language? Travel?

Did toy collecting ever hold you back because you spent hundreds or thousands at “Toys R Us events?”

Why or why not would you go looking for the next toy line to “get into collecting” now? What else would you like to do that you’ve never (or seldom) gotten to do before?
