What I want out of 35 figures for 2003!
OK, a while ago I came up with this formula for how Hasbro should space out the majority of the figures remaining for each category (that I made up too) so that we collectors could get all the figures that we want so badly. I took the non-movie standard amount of pre-Christmas season figures to be around 35 per year (carded).
I made these categories up and now I filled ’em for what I want in 2003:
These 10 standard figure categories annually:
Three cantina aliens:
1) Arcona
2) Gotal
3) Bom VimdimTwo Jabba Palace Goons
4) J’Quille
5) WoofTwo Astromech droid repaints:
6) Orange R5 from Mos Eisley

Ten more R2, R3, R4, and R5 variations for dioramas
All five remaining Phantom Menace Jedi Council Members
Ten more Padme Amidalas out of at least 20 they could do counting TPM
Army Builders11) Rebel Alliance: New Hoth Rebel Soldier w. holster. Replaces vintage 1980
12) Rebel Pilot: B-wing pilot; white male, red squadron. Replaces 1984 figure
13) Galactic Empire: New Imperial Officer – standard grey Navy uniform – 2 heads
14) Naboo Royal Guard (white guy from Senator’s ship?) black dude version?
15) Clone Trooper (ordinary infantry white, heavy articulation)I thought about the other categories:
Bespin just got an Asian security guard last year. Wait a year, then do the black guy version.
The Grand Army just got a Gungan Warrior. Wait a year or more, then give us the parade drummer (er…maybe)
Battle Droids: We have plenty. Are the blue pilot droids really going to sell individually carded? See my cinema scene suggestions.
Galactic Empire: We just got Sandtroopers, have a stormy troop builder set, getting Bikerscouts again in the acc. packs, got black uniformed officers still in some stores… if this wasn’t the army-builder category I’d say “Imperial Dignitary” but we can put him in a different category.
Geonosians: We’ve gotten 4 different ones. It will do. Poggle the Lesser is not in the army-builder category…
General Collection 1 Heroes / Villains
16) Luke – Death Star II Jedi Knight, instead of gimmicks, remove vest & cloak!
17) Leia – end of Empire Strikes Back, medical frigate
18) Lando – end of Empire Strikes Back, Corellian Smuggler Attire
19) R2D2 – retooled lightsaber launcher w. Jabba Drink Carosel addable
20) C-3PO – with Jabba spatter & pop-out eye (on knob from behind)
21) Anakin – “Jedi Council” – relaxed pose, molded cloak
22) Obi-Wan – “Jedi Council” – relaxed pose, molded cloak
23) Obi-Wan – “Kamino Duel” – wet hair, soaked molded cloak, articulation!
24) Jango Fett – Kamino Resident – in shirt, casual attire from apartment
25) Count Dooku – “Separatist Leader” – relaxed pose, articulationFigures there are no need for this year:
Ben Kenobi – they’re all done, save for a really good soft-goods one that fits in the landspeeder
Chewbacca – we’ve had 4 in less than 2 years! Enough.
Han Solo – there’s a trench coat in the Endor accessory pack. Do an EU Han from NJO or don’t bother right now. We just got one.
Darth Vader – we got 2 last year and just got another one now. It’s enough!
Darth Maul – they just did another one. Would somebody stop it?
Qui-Gon Jinn – they just did that too! They could have done a molded hood up if they wanted to be different, but it looks like junk the way they made the last one.
So that about sums the “main character” content up. Figures that I did list with numbers in “the 35” ought to be shipped in good quantities. That way there will be a Luke or Jango on the shelves for all the kiddies.
Specialty Collector Figures (10 left until “35”)26) Rebel Leader: General Madine (let’s get the vintage all re-done!)
27) Imperial Officer: Commander Jerjerrod (Moff? – ROTJ needs its officer)
28) Ewok of the Year: Chief Chirpa (lets get all 4 remaining remakes)
29) Republic Senator: Delegate from Kashyyyk (Wookiee – forgot name)
30) Background Extra: Gragga or SwokesSwokes (chubba seller)
31) Separatist Leader: Poggle the Lesser
32) Loyalist Party: Viceroy Bail Organa
33) Jedi Warrior: Master Yoda – normal pose. Two legs, finally!
34) Alien Leader: Lana Su – Prime Minister of Kamino
35) Hero Warrior: Dorme, – Padme’s handmaidenNow these categories are certainly debatable, but under:
Rebel Leader – we could have Capt. Antilles, Garven Dreis, General Reikeen in the future.
Imperial Officer – should have General Veers with Hoth accessories some day.
Ewoks should get a carded Paploo, but the other 3 that haven’t been redone could work in a cinema scene so much better…
With the Republic Senator, Tiikes of Mon Calamari (a Quarren), a Rodian Senator, an Ithorian Senator, and more could be made.
Amongst Background Extras: Elan Sleezebagano could be done, as well as Anthony Daniels’ Republic Officer and so forth, including Dexter’s waitress and his wife.
Separatist Leaders will include the Techno Union dude, the Banking Clan rep, and so on…
The Loyalists probably don’t include Ask Aaks, the Gran senator from Malastare, but so what. While he pushed for war, he might have changed position. Sly Moore can also move into this category.
Jedi Warrior would not be a council member necessarily, but the Asian girl, plus Barris Ofree, and normal sculpts of Kit Fisto and Luminara, plus a new one for Adi Gallia would all go over well. Mace could use a better carded figure, too.
The Alien Leader category could get a Gungan Rep Teers from Boss Nass’ council, plus a new Chief Ugnaught or something later on?
The Hero Warrior category could get a little exagerrated, but a new Sio Bibble and Queen Jamilla need to go somewhere.
Now to the cinema scenes to take care of some of the others that won’t sell well as single figures, or should be multi-packs:

Trade Federation Bridge: Tey How, Capt. Dauldry Dofine, blue pilot droid
The Villains: Nute Gunray soft-goods, Spider Walker w. chair, Darth Sidious Hologram
The Lars: Beru Whitesun, Owen Lars, Cliegg Lars on hoverchair
But anyway, I repeted some of the figures I want, but was more skeptical about seeing actually carded.
