Why is Wonder Woman still around?
Simple question.
No one seems to like her. She can’t keep a monthly title for more than a year or two at a time, tops. Then sales go into the toilet, and DC will keep publishing it anyway, and eventually cancel it only to start fresh with a new #1 a couple of months later.
Even guys like George Perez and John Byrne can’t make her not suck.
The only thing she’s good for is for folks to make cracks about her stupid invisible plane and lasso of truth.
So how is it that DC is offing characters right and left, and she somehow survived? How is it she’s survived every shakeup there?
Yeah, the Golden Age WW stories were cool for the time, and they’re historically significant in more ways than one (female lead character, female creator, etc). But she’s so incredibly lame, it seems cruel to keep stringing her along.
Can’t they at least totally reinvent her, a la the Justice League cartoon, to a crazed, man-hating warrior woman? The Justice League incarnation is the only truly modern version to not suck more than, say, Stegron the Dinosaur Man. Hell, she’s even stupider than Aquaman–at least the orange wiener has been reinterpreted to be interesting in the past couple of decades. Wonder Woman is still the same, only they ditched the plane so now we don’t even have that to laugh at anymore.
Please, Dan Didio, if you’re reading this, just kill the broad off already.
