As reported recently, Lord & Miller are out as directors of the Han Solo movie, which has been in principle photography since February and still has 3 more weeks of shooting to go, plus scheduled pick-up shoots for the end of summer.

Now comes news that everybody expected, Ron Howard will be taking over as director on the film.

Rumor has it that Kathleen Kennedy and Lawrence Kasdan were unhappy with the direction they chose to take the film, heavily departing from the script for a comedy improv tone, unsurprising given that their only 2 live action films prior to this - 21 Jump Street and its sequel - were exactly that. While this wasn't the best call on their part, it was incredibly unwise to hire the wrong kind of directors for this simply because they were seen as Hollywood's next it boys.
