Written by Christie Golden, the fifth announced Del Rey book will feature a storyline originally meant for The Clone Wars animated series.

The story is based on unaired scripts for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, much like Dark Horse's Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir comic series.  Dave Filoni previously showed a few pieces of concept art for this story arc, including Vos crossing sabers with Darth Maul.

Golden's previous Star Wars novels include three books from the Fate of the Jedi series: Omen, Allies, and Ascension.

In the Aaron McBride artwork seen here, Ventress is depicted with hair for the first time since the flashbacks to her days as Ky Narec's Padawan.

  1. The outfit is the same seen towards the end of TCW, and the hair seems styled after some of the other Nightsisters, but you’re right that it’s weird to see Ventress this way.

Since Vos and Ventress both originated in the EU, it will be interesting to see what (if anything) this novel incorporates from those sources. We already saw the canon version of Ventress’ backstory in TCW, which was very close to her EU history. I’m guessing that this was going to be a four-episode arc on TCW, so they probably won’t be delving into the entirety of Vos’ brush with the dark side, but the concept art certainly seems to hint at it and a novel might be a place they could flesh it out more than a few episodes of the show.

  2. I suppose this will be the test for what EU/Legends elements get pulled into the new aligned continuity in general, and I suspect like your example with Ventress from EU to TCW, there will be plenty of backstories and little things that get brought in.
