The book was updated in 1998 A new edition updated would be a fine book indeed. But do you realise how many figures have been released since then? tons! If the existing book were updated it would have to include all the episode one figures, all the power of the jedi figures. It’s going to be interesting if they do re-issue it when the new lines merge and all we have are ‘star wars’ figures with no clear distinction between classic and prequel.
Personally I think it would be better to wait until all the prequels have been and gone and then compile a revised edition containing figures from all three prequels and these remaining classic figures we’re seeing now.
Oh yeah, completely forgot about the remaining POTF2 figures that didn’t make it into the second edition. That’s gonna be some book if they ever do it.

Geeez! I didn’t know they made Star Wars figures in 1881!! I’d love to see them! Maybe they’re better than a few of those POTF2 “buff” figures.

I’m all for a second edition of the Action Figure Archives. Shouldn’t this thread be in the book section?

In related news, just after the first of the year, a huge book is going to be released with (literally) every single Star Wars collectible EVER! This price guide/product guide will include listings of every single trading card, gaming card, lunch box, toy, model, tennis shoe, Dixie Cup, etc. (the list goes on and on) ever produced from 1977 to 2001 and even toys that won’t yet be released at press time! I met the author at a local toy show and he was goodly enough to show me an advance, rough copy. He told me that he already had images and/or info on the entire first release of EII figures, plus other figures and toys well into mid-2002. I have a phone number for him and will try to get the exact name of the book and the publisher, plus details on when it will be released. Of course it will not have the kind of intense coverage of each individual figure that the Archives book has, since this is a univeral book rather than just toys. However, if you have ever wondered about everything Star Wars, from night lights to comics to novels and books to cake pans, to statues and beyond, I think this will be the book to own. More details soon…

Our goal is to have all those items in OUR Price Guide. We already have all the Hasbro Toys (vintage and new) in there!

Ah, nothing like a bit of unfair competition to spice up your life eh? I’ve seen loads of these kinds of books come and go over my time as a collector. Some are good and some are bad. Some are tedious listings of factory molds and variants of the minutest detail and agonising accounts of shifting prices over the years. Some are just a bit of fun like the action figure archive.
But as SirSteve points out, the archive here is vast and organic in nature. We have to wait years for a book to be reprinted but a website can be updated in seconds. I know which I prefer for accuracy. Now if there were just some pictures to go with those episode two figures you got listed there SirSteve…….. ;) :D I know, one day soon…..:)

Yeah… we like to include real COLLECTOR prices, not scalped prices in our Price Guide. And as for the E2 list, Hasbro made me pull that today. :(

Dang it! I was just going to head over there and copy the details into my database…. Oh well guess I should have been quicker about that sort of thing instead of looking at the pretty pictures. Bad Hasbro! Naughty Hasbro!:frus:

I didn’t think the Action Figure Archive HAD prices in it. If it did, I didn’t pay any attention. I just liked the detailed photographs of all the figures with their weapons and interesting little facts about the figgies and the characters in the movies.

I’d really like a similar book about Transformers…that’d be cool!

I LOVE this book! It just rocks! Lots of cool pictures, details, and good stuff. I like to stare at the page with all the astromechs on it and think of the possibilities….:) :)

Print just isn’t accurate. I mean, each month magazines come out with prices and by the time you get it, a lot of items have changed prices. Hence, SSG Price Guide comes into place…

    :D

Oh, we have some excellent things in the works that is really going to rock the collecting community!

Um, who the hell is this guy?

Anyway, is there a running count of how many unique figures have been released somewhere? I have just about every figure made to this point, but to go in and count them will take a bit more time than I have.

I have that Action Figure book. It’s great mostly for the vintage stuff, primarily because that series of toys is finished. Doing a final tally/guidebook is really only useful after a line has completed and Hasbro has moved on to the next. While the internet is very useful, it is at times more convenient to have actual pages to flip through when reviewing the collection. Maybe SirSteve could reformat the Vintage, POTF, and EPI sections into a printable book form so we could print out our own guide!
