Disney Parks Star Wars Lands Begin Construction in 2016
In an investors conference Thursday afternoon, Walt Disney Co. Chief Operating Officer Tom Staggs announced that construction for the highly anticipated Star Wars Lands will begin next year at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Anaheim.
“This will be I think perhaps the most immersive land we’ve ever built,” said Staggs about the purposed 14 acre zone. “We want people to feel like they’ve stepped into the world of Star Wars and so that’s really sparked our imaginations and it’s got people fired up.”
Speaking at the Bank of America-Merrill Lynch 2015 Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference in Beverly Hills, Staggs did not give an opening date for the new attractions.
“This will be I think perhaps the most immersive land we’ve ever built,” said Staggs, pumping up investors beyond belief.

Of the Disneyland plans…
The new 14-acre “Star Wars” land at Disneyland will be built just north of Frontierland where there is now the Big Thunder Ranch, some backstage areas and the Circle D Ranch, where the horses are stabled. Disney has pulled permits to move some of the warehouses and informed workers at the Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue that it will close mid-January.
The new land will feature several attractions, including one in which guests ride the Millennium Falcon spaceship and get a drink at a cantina similar to the famed Mos Eisley Cantina from the films.
“This will be, perhaps, the most immersive land we’ve ever built,” Staggs said. “We want people to feel like they stepped into the world of ‘Star Wars.’”
